Independent hotel operators: Stop all of this SEO nonsense!
Hey there, independent hotel operators.
It’s Thereasa from innRoad. We have to talk…. I know that you all value an honest, hard day’s work and I’m 100% the same. Running an independent hotel is tough, so I know that you aren’t trying to waste time on purpose. BUT unfortunately, I’m seeing way too many of you throw away precious hours every week. I’ll fully explain what I’m talking about in a second, but to quickly get to my point:
Stop wasting time with this SEO nonsense! Make your life easier with OTAs!
Ok, let’s get into this. We can agree that good Google search results placement is important, right? Of course! But fiddling around with SEO strategies and writing countless content pieces just to move up a few spots is absolutely pointless for independent hotels. Feel free to prove me wrong, but I’m willing to bet that the time and effort you spend trying to move up the page far outweighs the additional revenue, if any, you gain from slightly better placement. (But seriously, please don’t try to prove me wrong because that will just waste more of your time.)
The reason why I’m so passionate about this is because OTAs are set up specifically to help you sell rooms! They’re great at marketing, provide booking channels, improve search results and, most importantly, travelers use OTAs every day to search for hotel rooms! Sure, you have to buy into the system, but that’s the cost of doing business and making your life easier. But sometimes, as soon as I mention OTAs, hoteliers cringe like I just said a dirty word and I don’t understand why.
I WISH there was a way for me to get access to an unlimited number of independent hoteliers that were actively searching for a new PMS, but I don’t have anything like an OTA on my side. You do! You have access to a network of tools that put your beautiful properties right into the hands of people that are looking to stay a night in your neighborhood. Why not take advantage of that?!?! It’s a marketers dream! You take 20 minutes to set up an account and BAM! Reservations. Not many marketers (me included) get that kind of audience with such little effort.
Maybe I’m missing something, but it’s hard to argue with the success so many of our independent hotel partners are having. Again, if you can prove to me that there’s more value in SEO & content generation than OTAs, I’m all ears. But you have to do it without wasting any valuable time – that’s the catch!
