List your hotel on OTAs this summer

How are travelers finding your independent hotel this summer?

These longer, warmer spring days feel great, right?  Spring weather always gets people excited about traveling, so hopefully bookings are starting to roll in.  While springtime bookings are great, what’s your plan for the summer busy season?  Is your independent hotel positioned so travelers can easily find you online?  Yes?  No?  Maybe?  Well, regardless of how your hotel is positioned now, there’s still time to ramp up your online sales and marketing strategy and set yourself up for a great summer.

Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) provide independent hotels with easy and efficient solutions for improving positioning and capturing the attention of travelers.  We know that some hoteliers have hot/cold feelings about OTAs, so that’s why we’ve put together our Online Marketing Playbook.  Inside, we simplify how OTAs work, how to figure out which ones are best for your independent hotel, how to get setup and much more.

Right now is a great time for independent hotels to test the OTA waters.  If you’ve watched TV lately, chances are you’ve seen ads from major hotel chains pushing travelers to bypass OTAs and book directly.  Of course, the OTAs don’t like this at all.  Here’s what two CEOs of major OTAs had to say about the chains:

“I don’t appreciate some of the actions that are taken on a chain level sometimes… ”

  • Darren Huston – CEO, Priceline Group

“Marriott and Hilton have a choice to make and they will likely lose share in the Expedia marketplace if they don’t provide their best prices and availability.”

  • Dara Khosrowshahi – CEO, Expedia Inc.

Ouch!  Looks like the big chains have been put on notice.  If they decide to ignore the OTAs’ concerns, it sounds like independent hotels will have opportunities to improve their online placement.  So if you really want to grow your summer bookings this year, now’s the time to learn more about OTAs and global distribution.
