Celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week!

If you haven’t seen the excitement on social media, it’s National Travel and Tourism Week!  Championed by the U.S. Travel Association (USTA), this week-long event celebrates the contributions and achievements of those driving the U.S. travel industry forward, such as hard-working independent hotel operators.  This week provides great opportunities for independent hoteliers to promote tourism in their local communities and participate in the national online conversation.  Here are some quick tips for getting the most out of National Travel and Tourism Week:

Connect locally

As you know, the U.S. travel industry is massive – it generates $2.1 trillion annually for our economy.  Within our local communities, there are lots of organizations and people who are dedicated to growing travel so more travelers enjoy memorable experiences and more businesses benefit.  Getting involved with local travel and tourism organizations is a great way for independent hotels to keep their finger on the pulse of the industry.  Additionally, creating a network of travel-focused organizations and individuals will serve as a great resource for business advice and sales leads.  Check out the USTA’s participation map to see who in your local area is also celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week and then reach out to get connected.

Start trending

When you search the #NTTW16 hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, you’ll see the momentum National Travel and Tourism Week is picking up nationally.  We talk about the power of social media often, but this is a great opportunity to see it unfolding in real time.  Throughout the week, tag your social media posts with #NTTW16 and use content from the USTA’s online toolkit to show your support for the event and to get the word out to your online community.

Also, use this week to engage online with other travel businesses and build new relationships, but don’t let your social media activity fall off after the event is over.  Take note of how other independent hotels and travel organizations leverage social media, like using the popular #TravelTuesday hashtag, and utilize their tips and tricks to enhance your independent hotel’s online presence.
