Welcome to Shoulder Season!

Happy Labor Day Independent Hoteliers! We hope your last weekend of summer is enjoyable and relaxing! While we don’t want to rush you out of summer, we are excited to announce the start of Shoulder Season 2017! For independent hotels, shoulder season represents the travel period between the peak and off-peak seasons. While the exact dates differ based on factors such as geographic location, it typically falls between the end of summer and the start of the holiday season at the end of November.  Although it’s easy to assume that being in off-peak season means lower occupancy and decrease revenue, innRoad is here to help you get the most from your shoulder season this year!

All month long innRoad will be focused on helping you take full advantage of shoulder season this year. We also know that independent hoteliers need to use this time for different purposes to ensure it’s successful. While some may need to continue the high occupancy, they’ve experienced this summer to keep their doors open, others look forward to some free time so projects can get accomplished. Whichever camp you fall into, innRoad has guides and advice for everyone.

To start off, here are a few tips to take in consideration at the very start of shoulder season:

  • Start to consider what needs to be changed or updated at your property. Do you want to rework your marketing strategy? Do you need to update the furniture or decorations in rooms or the lobby? If you aren’t sure what would be the best use of time, take a walk around your property and ask your staff.
  • Get as much feedback as you can: Reach out to your guest’s while their stay is still fresh in their minds! Send out e-mails or setup calls to your guests to see what they liked about their stay and what could have been improved.
  • Update your website, social media, and OTA profiles to reflect the change of seasons: It’s important that all your marketing and sales channels are updated with the correct information. If you are still working on your new rates and promotions for Fall, make sure to have them published as guests are looking to book rooms ASAP.
